About Muintearas
Muintearas is both a visionary and a pro-active project. Our headquarters are in Tír an Fhia, Leitir Móir, Co. Galway (Ireland), but we are engaged in activities in all the Gaeltachtaí (Irish speaking areas) and beyond. The aims of the Muintearas project can be described in many different ways, but all of them are focused onpeople: - to achieve equal opportunities in terms of education and employment for people in the Gaeltacht; to provide personal development opportunities for men and women; to improve the quality of life for those who experience disadvantage; to facilitate full participation of parents in the education of their children; to support the use of the Irish language in all aspects of community life in the Gaeltacht, on the basis of justice and basic rights; to raise awareness in state agencies etc. for the special needs of the Gaeltacht; and to generally function as a facilitator for the Gaeltacht community, to help them to reach their full potential in economic, social, cultural and linguistic terms. These are ambitious aims, but Muintearas goes about them with a clear working programme, dedicated staff and good community relations.
