About Music
by Admin Although Fr. Séamus Mac Pháidín (Parish Priest 1875-1901) had little time for traditional music in the late 19th Century, the renowned piper, Tarlach Mac Suibhne, won much acclaim at home and abroad. Síle Mhící Uí Ghallchóir, Annie and Cití Eoghain Éamoinn Uí Ghallchóir and many others, paved the way for the famous singers and musicians of today who have achieved national and international recognition: Enya, Máire Ní Bhraonáin and Clannad, Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh and Altan, Na Caisidigh, Maria Nic Cumhaill, Aoife Ní Fhearraigh, Emma Ní Fhíoruisce and An Crann Óg. Is there any other parish in Ireland (or the world) that has given birth to so many talented singers? Teach Hiúdaí Beag and Tabhairne Leo are widely known for traditional music and Teach Jack is synonymous with céilí dancing.
