The Song House is a beautiful retreat centre for residential workshops across a range of activities including singing and cultural holidays, and is also available as an outstanding rental for family holidays. Originally named The Poets’ House by celebrated poets Jimmy and Janice Simmonds, it was a centre of literary activity for over 20 years with regular visitors including Seamus Heaney. The house has recently been renovated by Candy Verney whose work as a choir director has inspired countless singers for over 2 decades.
Right on the Wild Atlantic Way, and with the backdrop of the iconic Muckish Mountain which can be seen from every bedroom, it also lies in the heart of the Gaeltacht (where Irish is spoken) and is a great place from which to explore the local traditional musical and cultural life. It sleeps 12-14, in 5 bedrooms, and has a gorgeous sunny and expansive workshop room with a great acoustic for music. For larger groups there is a B&B next door that can house a further 10 people.
As a family holiday rental, it is the perfect base for your adventures exploring the wilderness of Donegal. The nearby coast, with expansive wild and empty beaches bordered by sand dunes, stretches for miles looking out onto Tory Island, which can be accessed from nearby Magheroarty Pier. The seascapes are spectacular in stormy weather, yet gently sloping sandy beaches make these ideal swimming spots in warmer seasons. For those interested in marine wildlife, be sure to keep an eye out for dolphins and seals!
Song House/Teach na nAmhran is run ecologically, with an organic garden fun of a wide variety of herbs and fruits, available for visitors.
