About Gweedore Golf Club

Gweedore Golf Club is a jewel in the middle of the Donegal Gaeltacht. From the scratch golfer to the beginner, you are always guaranteed to be given a Ceád Míle Fáilte. The superbly upgraded links layout with an imaginative revamping in 2014, with great assistance from An Roinn Ealaion Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta, has helped develop the course into one of the most natural and picturesque links courses in the county.

Situated in the heart of Gweedore, the unrestricted panoramic views will simply take your breath away. With one side of the course you can experience the rugged shores of the wild Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding islands, the other side lies in the shadow of beautiful Mount Errigal. The course itself is carved out of the natural landscape and it lies next to some of Ireland’s most picturesque and unspoilt beaches.

Gweedore Golf Club was founded in 1923, small scale but significant developments occurred over the years, from having a small tin hut in the 1930s, to the new modern clubhouse we currently use.

The purchase of land began in 1970 with further purchases following regularly. After many years of effort and enthusiasm the course now comprises of 14 distinct holes and the club is determined in the near future to achieve its ultimate aim of having an 18 hole course for its loyal male and female members.

Our youth society ‘Gailfóige’, founded by Seán Ó Cléirigh in 1986, is at present being successfully run by Nigel Ó Fearraigh. The nurturing and coaching of the Youth has always been an important element in the development of the club, not least in recent years, where a talented, enthusiastic crop of youngsters have developed at an amazing rate and their integration into senior golf has been smooth and successful. Annual summer camps are held during the months of July and August. These camps are run through the medium of the Irish language, which has always played an important part in the club with most of the club members being native Irish speakers so don’t be scared to brush up on your Gaeilge when you visit.

Beginner members are always made to feel welcome and the club has strived to encourage value for money with memberships starting at only €220 for the first year and €250 for the second.

The club has prided itself in extending our warmest welcome to visiting golfers and continues to cater for their needs. Most weekend competitions are open to visitors, green fees start at only €15, and with special rates being given to groups, a kind and friendly atmosphere is guaranteed with hot food being arranged as necessary. Having a beautiful bar and lounge the club has always catered for private functions and parties with bookings currently being taken by our bar convenor Mr. Hughie Mac Giolla Bhride.
